Local Mobilization For The Revitalisation Of Community Housing; Combating Heat and Increasing Urban Biodiversity

North America
Québec
Montréal

Born of a citizen mobilization process, stemming from the deployment of social housing, the project concerns the revamping of the North-East sector of Montréal-Nord in order to address social, economic and environmental challenges. The collaboration between Parole d’excluEs and the local government was possible because the revitalisation project is in line with a wider approach of Parole d’excluEs, and coincides with a desire of the neighborhood to revitalise this sector.
The initiative is situated within the framework of a program aimed at combating heat islands. Around twenty partners are involved and Parole d’excluEs is the project supervisor. Parole d’excluEs is a movement aimed at social transformation in order to put an end to all kinds of poverty and exclusion. Based on the needs and ambitions of citizens, it develops collective and transformative answers with citizens, community actors, institutions and the researchers.

Social Creative Economy by Young Communities at The Bottom of The Pyramid to propose Innovative Solutions for Urban Issues

Asia
Indonesia
Bandung

The Bottom of The Pyramid, a term used to represent the majority of a society, in the case of Bandung is young people below the age of 40, which is represented by 68% of its 2.5 million citizens. Bandung, also well known for its creative traits, reinforced this reputation by becoming a member of UNESCO Creative Cities Network since December 2015. On one hand, the economic growth of Bandung is up to 8.8%, the highest in Indonesia; on the other hand, 20% of its citizens still lives in poverty, causing a number of severe social problems. Considering these issues, Bandung Creative City Forum (BCCF) established the Social Creative Economy initiatives that aim to solve social problems within the urban context by involving Bandung’s abundant youth and their creative talents as the spearheads of the initiative programs.

Sceaux

The city of Sceaux has undertaken the construction of “Sceaux Valley”, an ecosystem that mobilizes the collective intelligence present in its territory, in order to favor innovation and social entrepreneurship, projects with positive social impact and the creation of value shared by everybody. Within this framework, a tool that supports the management of social innovation allows for the identification of projects and solutions to the needs of the territory, and  offers them an environment suitable for exchanges, communication and collective construction before the stage where they are being incubated by the ecosystem. This tool, called “UP Sceaux” has been conceived with “UP Campus” the global social network of Groupe SOS – a social enterprise – in the context of a partnership with the City of Sceaux.
